Third Sector Case Studies

We have delivered a variety of projects for a broad range of charities and third sector parties. The following case studies highlight some of the application support and development projects that we have carried out:

Bringing the Batphone to Life

                                                   ZSL

Bats are an excellent indicator for the wider health of wildlife and so finding out how bat populations are changing is a useful monitor of the health of wildlife across the world. In 2006 the Zoological Society of London (ZSL) launched iBats, a bat monitoring programme designed to engage volunteer community groups to monitor bat sounds to generate long-term data on bat populations across the globe.

Extending the iBats programme through technology was a pioneering concept for the conservation industry. The app, which has been developed for iPhone and android phones, lightens the load for iBats volunteers. With just a Smartphone and an ultrasonic microphone the calls of more than 900 species of bat can be recorded. Those recordings can then be uploaded to the iBats web portal, which uses special software to identify individual bat noises.

Casework with Military Precision

 Logo17012012

MSM Software's bespoke online case management system has streamlined processes, provided increased visibility for multiple agencies and significantly reduced casework management resolution time. However, the real life benefit of this unique system for military service men and women across the UK is unquantifiable; helping people who have served or are serving in the Armed Forces get financial, emotional and practical support and help faster is as vital today as it's ever been.

MSM delivers half of revenue for The National Trust

National Trust

The National Trust is the premier organisation preserving historic buildings throughout England and Wales.  We have a strategic relationship with the IS Department and are seen as one of their key suppliers.  We took over the daily support from an in house team for their entire website.  We have also rewritten significant subsystems on the website to modernise the technology in a project worth £250,000.  The website is business critical as it generates approximately half of their income (in the form of membership renewals).  We also support of various other legacy back office software running in each property

MSM is just the ticket for the Eden Project website

 Eden Project
The Eden Project is one of the largest visitor attractions in the UK.  As an educational charitable trust the income the visitors generate is valuable not just as business income but to fund maintenance and ongoing research and development.  Hence, a significant investment has been made in ticketing systems over the years.  The third party developer of the ticketing system has admitted it doesn't have the infrastructure or processes to support such a business critical function, and so we carried out a health check and took over support.

MSM grants The Royal Society funding success

 Royal Society
The Royal Society is the pre-eminent organisation supporting scientific advance, with worldwide renown.  Amongst other activities the Society manages a substantial funding programme for the benefit of researchers.  Due to the popularity of the various grant schemes the decision was made to invest in a modern replacement on an existing grant management system.  The replacement project was awarded to MSM Software based on the strength of our quality management system and our understanding of the business needs, even in comparison to the supplier of the existing system.  We worked closely with the Society's staff on the project to deliver within the budget.  The Society is now re-selling the database to other similar grant-making institutions.
