Third Sector Case Studies
The third sector is our largest market and we have delivered a
variety of projects for a broad range of charities and third sector
parties. The following case studies highlight some of the
application support and development projects that we have carried
out:
MSM speeds up funding for ex-servicemen and women
New development in .NET: Business analysis,
design, development and support plus hosting for SSAFA Forces Help
(London)
SSAFA Forces Help are a leading national charity committed to
helping and supporting those who served in our Armed Forces, those
who used to serve, and the families of both. On behalf of the
Confederation of British Service and Ex-Service Organisations
(COBSEO), which includes the Royal British Legion, SSAFA invited
MSM to tender for the design and development of a business critical
system to improve the process of its casework management, bringing
caseworkers and grant makers together through one online
system. The system will have many advantages over the current
paper and disc-based system. It is designed to reduce
duplication, improve efficiency and help with benefit and funding
applications, plus enabling both the charity and grant maker to
access statistical information and update the database with ease.
Besides carrying out the actual development work and build of
the software, MSM were also consulted extensively on the business
processes that are required. It was delivered on time within
the budget.. The web-based solution is written in Microsoft
technologies for easy deployment to thousands of volunteers
nationwide.

MSM delivers half of revenue for The National Trust
Strategic partner of the IS Department including health
check and taking over support, maintenance and enhancements of
entire website and various backoffice systems in Obtree/Livelink,
C++, ASP, Delphi and Oracle, for the National Trust
(Swindon)
The National Trust are the premier organisation preserving
historic buildings throughout England and Wales. We have a
strategically important relationship with the IS Department and are
seen as one of their key suppliers. We took over from an in
house team and provide daily support for their entire website,
written in Obtree/Livelink, C++ & ASP and running on
Oracle. We have also rewritten significant subsystems on the
website to modernise the technology, using C#, .NET & Oracle in
a project worth £250,000. The website generates
approximately half of their income (in the form of membership
renewals) and therefore is business critical. We also support
various other legacy backoffice software running on Windows in each
property, mostly in Delphi and Oracle. Again we took over
support & maintenance from an in house team after a health
check.

MSM is just the ticket for the Eden Project website
Health check of web-based PHP, Flash & Delphi
ticketing system leading to taking over support, maintenance and
enhancements, for the Eden Project (Cornwall)
The Eden Project is one of the largest visitor attractions in
the UK. As an educational charitable trust the income the
visitors generate is valuable not just as business income but to
fund maintenance and ongoing research and development. Hence,
a significant investment has been made in ticketing systems over
the years. The third party developer of the ticketing system
has admitted it doesn't have the infrastructure or processes to
support such a business critical function, and so we carried out a
health check and took over support. The system is written in
a combination of PHP, Flash and Delphi using a PostgreSQL
database.
MSM grants The Royal Society funding success
Development of grant making database: Business
analysis, design, development and support for The Royal Society
(London)
The Royal Society is the pre-eminent organisation supporting
scientific advance, with worldwide renown. Amongst other
activities the Society manages a substantial funding programme for
the benefit of researchers. Due to the popularity of the
various grant schemes the decision was made to invest in a modern
replacement on an existing grant management system. The
replacement project was awarded to MSM based on the strength of our
quality management system and our understanding of the business
needs, even in comparison to the supplier of the existing
system. We worked closely with the Society's staff on the
project to deliver within the budget. Technologies are C#,
.NET and SQL Server 2005. The Society is now re-selling the
database to other similar grant-making institutions.
